How to use the pond calculator
This tool calculates the estimated volume of your pond and the size of liner required to line it. It supports rectangular and circular pond shapes and includes options for overlap and cost per square metre.
Select the pond shape
Choose either a rectangular or circular pond. If your pond has an irregular shape, you can use the closest standard type and enter average measurements for a reliable estimate.
Enter the dimensions
For rectangular ponds, enter the length, width and average depth in metres.
For circular ponds, enter the diameter and average depth.
Use the average depth across the whole base. If the pond has shelves or a sloped bottom, estimate an average rather than using the deepest point.
Include liner overlap
Add an overlap value in metres. This accounts for the additional material needed to anchor the liner beyond the edges of the pond. A typical overlap is between 0.5 and 1.0 metres.
Add liner cost
If you know the price per square metre of your liner, you can enter this to generate a full materials cost based on the total area required.
