Work out material quantities and cost for your driveway project
Whether you’re replacing cracked concrete or upgrading loose gravel, this calculator helps you work out how much material you need and what it might cost.
It includes area and depth, optional extras like sub-base or grids, and a simple breakdown of everything involved.
How to use the driveway calculator
This calculator estimates the amount of material needed to cover your driveway. It takes into account the size, the surface type, and any extra layers required for proper installation.
Enter your area
Enter the length and width of your driveway in metres. The calculator will work out the total area for you. There is no need to calculate it yourself.
Choose your material
You can select from the following surface options:
- Tarmac. Well suited to large areas and usually priced per square metre
- Resin. More expensive than tarmac but visually cleaner. Requires a solid sub-base
- Gravel. Loose material, lower cost, priced per cubic metre
The depth will be set automatically based on typical installation guidance, but you can change it if your project has different requirements.
Optional extras
If you select resin, you can choose to include the cost of a new sub-base.
If you select gravel, you can add a gravel grid to improve structure and reduce movement.
Add wastage
A default wastage percentage of five percent is applied to allow for overordering, edge trimming or spills. You can increase this if your driveway has awkward shapes or you expect more cutting waste.
The calculation
The calculator works out the following
- Total area in square metres
- Volume or surface quantity required, adjusted for wastage
- Estimated cost of materials
- Optional additions like gravel grids or resin sub-base
- Tarmac pricing that adjusts depending on the area size
All results update instantly as you change your inputs.
